Fire at national park under control

Thousands of locals, soldiers and firemen tried their best to fight the fire in the last four days. They created a one-kilometer fire shield, which helped prevent the fire from expansion.

Most firefighters have left the forest, though some remain to monitor the situation.

Also on March 6, a new fire broke out in O Quy Ho area, in Sapa town, however, forest rangers and locals were able to put it out the same day. It is estimated that 13-15 hectares were burnt and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

The Hoang Lien National Park is located in six communes of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces in northern Vietnam. The park covers around 30,000 hectares. It was recognized as the ASEAN Heritage Garden in 2003.
