Boat capsizes, five feared dead

Aboard the boat were 28 officers and soldiers of battalion No70 of the Quang Nam provincial Military Command. Among them were the commander and the political commissar of the battalion.

Six other people were also on the boat when it capsized and fell into pieces. They included Vuong Quoc Hoa, the Party Secretary of Tan Hiep island commune, and two women.

Rescue workers found 29 people, who were admitted to hospitals in Hoi An city for treatment. One of the rescued was confirmed dead.

Two army ships and two canoes were mobilized to comb through the area where the boat sank. However, strong winds and high seas hampered the rescue work.

The boat turned upside down when it was travelling from Cu Lao Cham islets to Cua Dai beach.
